I grew up in Newcastle, immersed in surfing culture of the 80s. I came to photography through the printed image in surfing magazines, and wondering how the pictures came to be.
I started photographing people professionally with weddings, then moved to commercial fashion and beauty. The pandemic put the work on pause, and when I came back, I wanted to build something quieter, that my clients found worth keeping.
What I make now feels more honest. For me, a good portrait comes from the connection in the room. I work slowly enough for that connection to settle, and I trust the pictures to come from it. The result tends to be artistic, cinematic, and true to the person or people in front of my camera.
I photograph from my studio in Newcastle. The work I take on is limited across a year by design....I'd rather take the time to make it well.
If the practice feels like what you've been looking for, the next step is a conversation.
